South Korea and Indonesia sign Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation in AI and digital development.
The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT says that South Korea and Indonesia reached an agreement on Wednesday to expand cooperation and exchanges in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, and to address global challenges by leveraging relevant technologies.
According to official information, during Indonesian President Prabowo’s three-day state visit to South Korea, the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT and Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs signed a memorandum of understanding on digital development.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the two countries will work to promote exchanges in a broad range of areas related to the AI industry, including digital policy, next-generation communications technologies, and information protection.
South Korea and Indonesia also announced the launch of the “Global AI for Everyone Inclusive Foundations Social Solidarity Initiative,” which aims to address global challenges, including healthcare and education, by strengthening links within the AI ecosystem.
The two countries will establish a Joint Committee on Digital Development to carry out joint research projects and expert exchanges.
In a statement, South Korean Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon said: “After the bilateral summit, South Korea and Indonesia agreed to establish an official science and communications dialogue channel, with a view to working together in the global foundational AI field and promoting solidarity.”
Bae Kyung-hoon noted that the two countries plan to play a role in global AI-related issues through mutually beneficial cooperation.
