Wang Yi Had a Phone Call with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah
On March 4, 2026, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, held a phone call with Abdullah, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates. Abdullah briefed Wang Yi on the regional situation and the UAE’s position, saying that the UAE is not a party to the war, has not participated in this conflict, and should not be subjected to unlawful attacks. The UAE expressed appreciation for China’s consistent commitment to an objective and impartial position, and looked forward to China continuing to play an active and important role in the current grave circumstances to prevent regional tensions from escalating further. The UAE said it will continue to take measures to safeguard the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions. Wang Yi reiterated China’s principled position on the current situation in Iran, saying that the spillover of war is not in the interests of any side, and that it is only the people of the region who will suffer. The red line on protecting civilians during the conflict must not be crossed; non-military targets such as energy, the economy, and people’s livelihoods should not be attacked; and the safety of shipping lanes should be further safeguarded. Ahead of the war, the UAE had worked tirelessly for peace. The GCC’s special foreign ministers’ meeting also recently emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to overcome the current crisis and maintain regional security, and China commended this. China supports the UAE’s legitimate demands to safeguard national security, and supports regional countries in continuing to commit to resolving disputes through diplomatic means. China will not give up its hope for peace; it will continue to play a constructive role in this regard, dispatching a Special Envoy on the Middle East issue to help mediate in the region and to push the region back toward peace and stability. The UAE is urged to continue to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in the UAE. (CCTV News)
