Nuclear Crisis | Iranian officials say they are considering withdrawing from the Non-Proliferation Treaty
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Islamic Parliament, stated on social media on Friday that Iran’s continued membership in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is meaningless, as the treaty has not brought Iran any substantial benefits.
Rezaei pointed out that the NPT has not only failed to protect Iran from attacks by nuclear powers but has also led to multiple attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, with international documents and agreements being completely disregarded.
He noted that the United States has withdrawn from over 60 international organizations and treaties, and if Iran chooses to withdraw from the NPT, the Western countries may express surprise and opposition, but “now is the time to leave,” emphasizing that Iran has no intention of producing nuclear weapons, and this policy has not changed.
Rezaei also pointed out that the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, claims that the only way to eliminate Iran’s nuclear program is through nuclear bombing, and such a statement is provocative and dangerous.
