Sri Lanka Navy spokesman Budika Sampath stated on the 4th that the country’s navy is conducting a rescue operation for a distressed Iranian naval vessel in waters south of Sri Lanka. So far, 32 people have been rescued, and some bodies of the deceased have also been recovered. Sampath said at a news conference held by the Sri Lankan government that the navy received a distress signal from the Iranian naval vessel in the waters south of Sri Lanka that morning, immediately notifying the air force and dispatching ships equipped with necessary equipment to the relevant waters to carry out the rescue. He stated that the 32 rescued individuals have been sent to a hospital in southern Sri Lanka for treatment. The Sri Lanka Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard continue to carry out search and rescue operations in the area where the incident occurred. After the press conference, Sampath told Xinhua News Agency that relevant documents indicate the vessel involved carried 180 people, but the actual number still needs to be verified. It is currently impossible to determine the survival chances of the remaining individuals, and every effort will be made to continue the search.
