Bloomberg citing sources reports that Facebook’s parent company Meta will lay off hundreds of employees as part of a restructuring; the layoffs involve multiple teams including sales, recruiting, and the Metaverse and hardware division Reality Labs.

Sources say this round of layoffs will affect employees in the U.S. and other international markets, with some affected employees given internal transfer opportunities or the chance to stay with the company through relocation.

Two other sources also said that some employees in the Reality Labs division were asked to work from home on Wednesday to coordinate the layoffs.

A Meta spokesperson stated, “Meta teams regularly undergo restructuring or adjustments to ensure they are in the best position to achieve their goals. Whenever possible, we will look for other opportunities for employees impacted by these changes.”

Sources indicate that this round of layoffs will affect fewer than 1,000 employees. Meta had approximately 79,000 employees worldwide at the beginning of the year.
