Government to meet with aviation industry to establish platform for communicating about cargo fuel surcharge adjustments
The Transport and Logistics Bureau stated on social media that it will meet with local airlines and freight industry representatives within this week to build a platform that facilitates communication between both parties regarding adjustments to freight fuel surcharges, working together through difficult times.
Transport and Logistics Bureau Secretary and Hong Kong Logistics Development Council Chairwoman, Carrie Lam, emphasized that maintaining Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an international aviation hub and logistics center is crucial. She previously met with local airlines to express concerns about the increase in fuel surcharges and called for enhanced communication and greater transparency in pricing within the industry. The bureau will continue to work closely with the logistics sector and implement multi-faceted strategies to help the industry face challenges and seize opportunities, jointly promoting the sustainable development of Hong Kong’s logistics industry and strengthening its position as an international shipping and aviation hub.
She also mentioned that the Logistics Development Council has been dedicated to gathering expertise from various sectors of the industry to assist the government in understanding industry trends, formulating policies that support sustainable development, and consolidating Hong Kong’s status as a regional logistics hub. In the face of a volatile global economic environment, the government remains highly attentive to the impact on local transportation and freight industries and continues to maintain close communication with various sectors to jointly explore and promote response strategies.
