Google parent company Alphabet has further expanded into the AI-driven robotics field through a new partnership with Agile Robots, based in Germany, via its subsidiary DeepMind.

The goal of this collaboration is to integrate DeepMind’s multimodal AI models, capable of processing visual, language, and tactile inputs, into Agile Robots’ industrial systems. Headquartered in Munich, the company has delivered over 20,000 robotic devices worldwide. It aims to leverage this technology to enhance automation in electronics manufacturing, automotive production, logistics, and data centers.

Agile Robots stated that the partnership will focus on improving robot performance by deploying robots in real-world environments, collecting data, and continuously training the models. The project will combine DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics model with Agile’s existing hardware and AI solutions.

This move aligns with Alphabet’s broader strategy to advance “Physical AI” — the application of machine learning models in real-world environments. Earlier this year, the company also collaborated with Boston Dynamics and other robotics firms on humanoid systems.

Since its founding in 2018, Agile Robots has received over $270 million in funding from investors including SoftBank Vision Fund and Xiaomi. The agreement indicates that as companies seek to deploy powerful AI in real-world systems, competition in the industrial automation sector is intensifying.
