International FBI Operation: How a Multi-Million Cryptocurrency Theft Was Uncovered
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has detained John Daguita, the main suspect in one of the largest thefts of crypto assets from U.S. government agencies. According to investigators, the stolen assets amount to at least $46 million from confiscated government digital assets.
How CMDSS Gained Access to Government Assets
A key role was played by CMDSS, a company led by the suspect’s father. In 2024, this organization signed a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service to manage confiscated crypto assets—assets seized during federal operations. This access allowed Daguita to gain control over digital asset storage systems and commit a serious theft.
According to an investigation by well-known blockchain analyst ZachXBT, Daguita is involved in the theft of at least $40 million. The analyst, who specializes in tracking cryptocurrency movements online, uncovered a scheme for illegal fund transfers and identified the suspect’s role in the crimes.
Identity Revealed Through Telegram Conflict
A turning point in the investigation was a conflict between Daguita and another member of the criminal network on the messaging app Telegram. During this conflict, the suspect made a critical mistake—deliberately transferring $23 million between his personal wallets, effectively confirming his involvement in the theft. This action provided investigators with the necessary evidence for final identification and the conclusion of the investigation.
International Operation: Arrest on Saint Martin Island
The arrest was carried out on Saint Martin Island in the Caribbean during a coordinated operation between the FBI and the French Gendarmerie. This international cooperation underscores the seriousness of the crime and the priority of combating theft of government assets in cryptocurrency form. FBI Director Christopher Wray officially announced the results of the operation.
This case demonstrates how digital asset thefts can be uncovered through a combination of professional blockchain analysis, law enforcement efforts, and international collaboration in fighting cybercrime.
