Kingsoft Cloud Executive Changes: Lei Jun Resigns as Non-Executive Director, Zou Tao Takes Over as Chairman
Kingsoft Cloud Holdings Limited (Stock Symbol: Kingsoft Cloud) recently announced an important personnel change. Founder Lei Jun has officially resigned from his non-executive director position due to work adjustments, effective from March 25, 2026. With this change, Lei Jun will no longer serve as Chairman, Chair of the Nomination Committee, or member of the Remuneration Committee.
Taking over as Chairman is 50-year-old Zou Tao, who has a deep connection with Kingsoft Group. A technology expert who graduated from Nankai University in 1997, Zou Tao joined Kingsoft Software Group in 1998 and has held multiple senior management roles. Since December 2016, he has served as a director of Kingsoft Cloud and has been acting CEO since August 2022. His promotion signifies an expansion of his management responsibilities. The announcement also states that Zou Tao will concurrently serve as Chair of the Nomination Committee.
In the board restructuring, Xiaomi Group Vice President Qu Heng has been newly appointed. The 44-year-old technology manager will serve as a non-executive director, and as a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committees. Public information shows that Qu Heng joined Xiaomi Group in 2010, led ecosystem business development, and served as General Manager of the Ecosystem Department from 2018 to 2023. Earlier, from 2005 to 2010, he worked at Beijing Kingsoft Software Co., Ltd. as an engineer and development manager, demonstrating a strong technical background and management experience.
This personnel adjustment involves a comprehensive overhaul of Kingsoft Cloud’s core management team, reflecting both the strategic plan for the founder to gradually step back from daily operations and deep collaboration between executives from Kingsoft and Xiaomi. The new Chairman Zou Tao has been with Kingsoft for 26 years, and his technical background and management experience are seen as key to driving the company’s development; Qu Heng’s cross-group role continues the industry synergy model established during Lei Jun’s era.
