On the evening of March 22 local time, two incidents occurred at New York LaGuardia International Airport where aircraft collided with ground vehicles. In the first incident, a Canadian Airlines Express flight departing from Montreal, Canada, collided with a fire truck on the runway during landing. The aircraft’s nose was severely damaged. Earlier reports indicated that the accident injured four firefighters. Other reports stated that two people died and 70 were injured. It is understood that there were about 100 passengers on the aircraft and five people in the fire truck at the time of the incident. Shortly afterward, at LaGuardia Airport, a Canadian Jazz Airlines aircraft also collided with the fire truck responding to the first incident. The current situation is unclear. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary grounding order for all flights at the airport. LaGuardia Airport’s website shows that arriving flights have been gradually diverted to other airports or returned to their departure airports. (CCTV News)
