(MENAFN- KNN India) ** New Delhi, Mar 23 (KNN)** The government has taken proactive steps to manage the evolving situation in West Asia, focusing on fuel supply, maritime operations and the safety of Indian nationals, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said in a press release over the weekend.

The ministry highlighted that despite the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, India has adequate stocks of crude oil, petrol and diesel, with refineries operating at high capacity. No fuel shortages have been reported at retail outlets, and the public has been advised against panic buying.

Domestic LPG supply remains normal with no reported dry-outs even as commercial LPG availability remains under pressure.

** Gas and LPG Supply Prioritised**

Priority gas supply is being ensured for domestic PNG and CNG transport, while industrial users are receiving about 80 per cent of their usual supply. The government is pushing a shift from LPG to PNG, directing faster approvals and offering incentives for new connections.

Commercial LPG allocation has been increased to 50 per cent, with priority for sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, restaurants, and community kitchens. Over 15,000 metric tonnes of LPG has been supplied to states in the past week.

** Additional Measures and Enforcement**

An additional 48,000 KL of kerosene has been allocated to states, alongside promotion of alternative fuels like coal. LPG booking intervals have been extended to manage demand.

States have been asked to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Around 3,500 raids have been conducted, with over 1,200 LPG cylinders seized. Oil companies have also inspected more than 1,800 fuel outlets.

** Shipping and Seafarers Safe**

Shipping operations remain normal, with no incidents reported involving Indian vessels. A total of 22 Indian-flagged ships with over 600 seafarers are in the western Persian Gulf. More than 500 seafarers have been repatriated so far, with a 24x7 control room monitoring the situation.

** Public Advisory**

The government urged citizens to avoid panic bookings, rely on official information, and use fuel judiciously. It also encouraged the use of PNG and electric cooking options.

Authorities said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted supplies and citizen safety amid the ongoing crisis.
