Uttar Pradesh Sugar Mills in India Expected to End Crushing Season by End of March
Several sugar mills in Bijnor, northern Uttar Pradesh, India, are expected to finish crushing by the end of March. Some mills may continue operating into the first week of April, and one or two might run until April 15. The area has approximately 255,000 hectares of sugarcane cultivation. To crush the cane, there are 10 sugar mills and hundreds of electric and traditional crushing machines in operation. Bijnor Sugar Mill General Manager Shishpal Singh said the mill will keep running until all the sugarcane in the region is crushed, expected to be by the end of March. Bilai Sugar Mill General Manager Rahul Chaudhary stated that the mill has currently crushed 8.05 million quintals of sugarcane. In the previous crushing season, the mill crushed 10.462 million quintals. He added that the mill will only stop crushing after all available sugarcane in the region has been processed.
