Zhu Yu | Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council: Mainland Dramas Hot on Taiwan - Demonstrates Root Connection Between Cross-Strait Compatriots

The mainland Chinese costume drama “Zhu Yu,” starring the male god Zhang Linghe and Tian Xihe, is currently popular and sparking discussions in Taiwan.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, responded to questions at a routine press conference, stating that the continuous popularity of mainland Chinese TV dramas in Taiwan and their affection among island viewers fully demonstrate that Chinese culture is the root and belonging of compatriots on both sides of the strait. Watching these dramas naturally fosters emotional resonance with excellent film and television works; this cultural identity and emotional connection are unbreakable for anyone.

Zhu Fenglian pointed out that compatriots on both sides of the strait are connected by blood and share cultural ties. The foundation for cross-strait film and television cooperation is solid, with broad prospects. The mainland actively supports cross-strait cultural exchanges and cooperation. Whether mainland artists, creators, and production companies go to Taiwan, or Taiwanese artists, creators, and production companies come to the mainland, both sides can collaborate to produce more outstanding cultural works, creating more beautiful memories and visual enjoyment for audiences on both sides.

Exercises are all overestimating oneself and pretending to be capable

Recently, Taiwan authorities held a “National Society Defense Resilience Committee Meeting,” planning exercises from April to August this year, combined with the annual “Han Kuang Exercise,” aiming to establish a more comprehensive “crisis response system.” Zhu Fenglian criticized that the DPP authorities’ exercises are just showboating and are overestimating their abilities.

Zhu Fenglian stated that the biggest “crisis” Taiwan faces is that the DPP government is going against the mainstream public opinion that desires peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation. They are recklessly pursuing “independence” through “military means” and relying on external forces, pushing Taiwan toward war. “Pursuing independence through military means” is a dead end.

Lai Qingde’s pro-Japan and pro-Taiwan fallacy is a distortion of history and a betrayal of the nation

Taiwan leader Lai Qingde recently proposed the “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere” and praised Japan’s colonial rule in Taiwan, sparking controversy on the island.

Zhu Fenglian said that Lai Qingde disregards historical facts, embellishes and beautifies Japanese colonial rule, which is a distortion of history, a blasphemy against martyrs, and a betrayal of the nation. This again exposes his ugly nature of pro-Japan, pro-Taiwan, and provocative pursuit of “independence.” The mainland will never allow anyone to whitewash colonialism or rewrite history of aggression, nor will it allow external forces to interfere in China’s internal affairs regarding Taiwan.

She emphasized that compatriots on both sides of the strait should always remember the glorious history of the Chinese people sacrificing greatly to defeat the vicious Japanese militarism, defending national sovereignty and dignity with blood and life. They must resolutely oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism and external interference, work together to promote national reunification, and create a bright future for national rejuvenation.

Cross-strait infrastructure connectivity will gradually become a reality

Regarding mainland infrastructure issues, Zhu Fenglian pointed out that during the 14th Five-Year Plan, the mainland will accelerate the construction of a modern infrastructure system. Of the 109 major projects planned, 23 are directly related to infrastructure. This will further improve transportation, water conservancy, energy, and other basic facilities, as well as strengthen new infrastructure such as major scientific and technological infrastructure, information and communication networks, and computing power networks.

She mentioned that cross-strait infrastructure connectivity will gradually become a reality, such as jointly building a cross-strait rapid passage that has been studied for years, turning “natural barriers” into “conduits.” Taiwanese people could depart from the island and drive along the Jing-Tai Expressway to visit Beijing.

Zhu Fenglian emphasized that peaceful reunification will be the starting point for a new era of infrastructure and new infrastructure development in Taiwan. She hopes that the broad Taiwanese compatriots will pursue cross-strait peace and reunification as they pursue personal happiness, making their homes more accessible, convenient, and better.
