Namibia’s regulatory agency announced on the 24th that it has officially rejected the application for a telecommunications license and radio spectrum access for SpaceX’s satellite internet system “Starlink” in the country. The reasons cited include failure to meet legal requirements related to ownership, national security, and compliance records. Tuli Mewawa Mufeti, chairman of the Namibia Communications Regulatory Authority board, stated at a press conference in Windhoek that although the applicant meets requirements in market competition, technology and financial capability, and spectrum resource availability, it does not satisfy legal standards concerning ownership, national security, and compliance records, and therefore does not qualify for approval.
