People’s Financial News, March 20 — At 11:00 AM on March 20, the 220 kV Weizhou Island Cross-Sea Interconnection Project of Southern Power Grid officially began operation, marking the complete end of the “isolated grid operation” on Weizhou Island and achieving a connection with the Guangxi main power grid. This project is the first 220 kV cross-sea interconnection project in Beibu Gulf and a major energy project in Guangxi, invested and built by China Southern Power Grid Guangxi Electric Power Company, with a total investment of approximately 858 million yuan. The main construction started in January 2025, including the building of a 220 kV Weizhou substation on Weizhou Island and the construction of a new 220 kV line to connect to the Dunghai substation in Beihai and integrate into the Guangxi main power grid system.
