"Auntie Mei" is arrested
On March 21, the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau announced that, through relentless efforts, significant progress has been made in the “Zhang Weiping and Others Child Trafficking Case.” Suspect Xie Moumou (female) has been apprehended. She is the key figure in the case, known as “Aunt Mei.”
Between September 2003 and December 2005, multiple children were abducted in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, and Boluo, Huizhou. After the incident, the Ministry of Public Security and Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department designated the case as a priority and established joint task forces at the provincial, city, and district levels to investigate. In 2016, five suspects, including Zhang Weiping, were arrested. Zhang Weiping confessed to child trafficking and stated that the children were sold through “Aunt Mei.”
To reunite separated families as soon as possible, the special task force worked with victim families and social organizations to conduct ongoing search and rescue operations. From 2019 to 2024, all abducted children were recovered and reunited with their families. In April 2023, the main suspect Zhang Weiping and others were sentenced to death in accordance with the law. However, due to missing key information such as their true identities, “Aunt Mei,” the pivotal figure in the case, has yet to be captured.
Following the principle of “no case left unsolved without thorough investigation,” the police adopted a strategy of “tightening internally and relaxing externally,” conducting extensive interviews, releasing composite sketches, and collecting clues over the years.
In 2025, under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security and with support from other provincial police agencies, the investigation team identified a woman named Xie Moumou whose characteristics closely matched those of “Aunt Mei.” Further verification confirmed that Xie Moumou is indeed “Aunt Mei.”
Recently, the suspect Xie Moumou was arrested. During interrogation, she fully admitted to her involvement in child trafficking.
Currently, Xie Moumou has been legally detained by the police, and the case is ongoing.
