People’s Financial News, March 19 — On March 19, NIO Founder, Chairman, and CEO Li Bin attended the Advanced Manufacturing Summit in Shanghai — the (2026) Semiconductor Industry Summit Forum — and delivered a keynote speech. Li Bin stated that the current automotive semiconductor industry is facing three major challenges: rapid growth in AI computing power demand, fragmentation of chip systems, and increased supply chain volatility. NIO is building core capabilities for the intelligent era through self-developed and customized chips, continuously optimizing the performance and cost of high-value chips. As of now, NIO’s self-developed chips have been mass-produced over 550,000 units. Meanwhile, NIO is promoting the normalization and standardization of automotive chips, aiming to cover vehicle chip options with no more than 400 specifications to enhance scale effects and system efficiency. By 2027, NIO’s domestication rate of automotive semiconductors is expected to reach 35%–40%.
