U.S. President Trump announced on social media on March 13: “Just now, under my orders, U.S. Central Command launched one of the most intense bombings in Middle Eastern history against Iran’s ‘Crown Jewel’—Hark Island, completely destroying all military targets on the island.”

Trump stated, “Our weapons are the most powerful and advanced in the world today. But for humanitarian reasons, I chose not to destroy the island’s oil infrastructure. However, if Iran or any other forces attempt to interfere with the freedom and security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, I will reconsider this decision immediately.”

Hark Island is Iran’s most important crude oil export hub, hosting the world’s largest offshore oil terminal, responsible for about 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports. Its strategic location directly impacts the security of the energy corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and is a vital node in Iran’s economy and the global energy supply chain.
