China International Airlines’ direct flight from Beijing to Pyongyang will resume after a 6-year hiatus.

According to Yonhap News Agency, on March 13 local time, sources from the diplomatic sector and Chinese aviation industry confirmed that Air China’s direct flight from Beijing to Pyongyang (CA121) will resume operations starting March 30. Tickets are currently available for booking on Air China’s official website and travel platforms like Ctrip, with prices starting at 2,040 RMB.

Yonhap reports that the flight will also operate on April 6, 13, 20, and 27, maintaining a weekly schedule. The flight on the 30th will depart from Beijing Capital International Airport at 8:05 a.m. (Beijing time) and arrive at Pyongyang Sunan International Airport at 11:00 a.m. (Pyongyang time) after a 1 hour and 55-minute flight.

On March 14, The Observer’s website checked both Air China’s official site and Ctrip, confirming the availability of related tickets.

According to Yonhap, China’s national airline suspended the Beijing-Pyongyang route in January 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic control measures. This marks its return after 6 years. Koryo Airlines resumed flights between Pyongyang and Beijing in August 2023, operating twice weekly. The bi-directional international passenger train between Beijing and Pyongyang has also resumed after 6 years, indicating an accelerated expansion of personnel exchanges between China and North Korea.
