Guido Crosetto contests the legality of strikes against Iran
In March, the Italian Minister of Defense expressed significant concerns regarding military operations conducted by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran. According to Jin10 reports, Guido Crosetto addressed the Italian Parliament, strongly rejecting the legality of these actions under international law and global standards.
Violations of International Law According to Rome’s Position
The Italian Defense official emphasized that these interventions fall outside the framework established by international law. In his parliamentary speech, Guido Crosetto stated that this escalation has occurred without genuine international consensus. The minister expressed a clear stance: “This is not the conflict we envision for the future.” This position reflects Italy’s diplomatic caution in the face of a volatile geopolitical situation.
Enhanced Protective Measures and Regional Coordination
In response to the increasing unpredictability of the situation, Italy has taken defensive measures. Guido Crosetto has worked closely with allied partners and NATO to raise the alert levels of Italy’s air defense systems and missile shields to the maximum available protection.
Italy Refuses to Engage Militarily
Regarding the critical issue of the potential use of American military facilities in Italy for operations against Iran, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani clarified the official position before Parliament. Italy has not granted any authorization to the United States to conduct such operations from its territory. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reaffirmed that Rome maintains its neutrality and does not participate in this conflict, thereby reinforcing Italy’s non-involvement in regional hostilities.
