During the ongoing closure of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is “asking” other countries to contribute to the defense of the strait.
“I am indeed requesting these countries to get involved and protect their own territory,” he told reporters on Air Force One on Sunday, but refused to specify which countries. “That’s where they get their energy from, and they should come help us protect it.”
On Sunday, Trump told the Financial Times that if NATO members do not help address the issues in the Strait of Hormuz, the future of NATO will be “very bad.”
