On February 18th, local time, the three major U.S. stock indices opened with gains. As of press time, the Dow Jones rose 0.5%, the Nasdaq increased 0.5%, and the S&P 500 gained 0.41%.

Large technology stocks mostly rose, with Nvidia up 2%.

In terms of news, on February 17th, local time, Meta announced that it will use Nvidia’s new standalone CPU and next-generation Vera Rubin system in its AI data centers. Meta becomes the first to deploy Nvidia’s Grace CPU as an independent chip in its data centers, rather than integrating it with GPUs in servers as before. Nvidia stated that this is the first large-scale deployment of the Grace CPU independently.

The Nasdaq China Golden Dragon Index increased by 0.2%.

It is worth noting that all three major European stock indices rose today. As of press time, the UK FTSE index increased by 1.07%, hitting a new all-time high during the trading session; the French CAC index rose 0.29%, and the German DAX index increased by 0.84%. Additionally, the Nikkei 225 index closed up 1.02%, while the Korean stock market was closed for trading.

In commodities, international crude oil futures surged significantly. As of press time, WTI crude oil futures rose 3.02% to $64.14 per barrel; Brent crude oil futures increased 3.04% to $69.47 per barrel. International precious metals prices also continued to rise, with spot silver jumping 5.4% and spot gold increasing 2.39%.

In terms of news, on February 18th, local time, the Slovak government announced a state of emergency in the national oil sector starting February 19th due to Ukraine halting transit of Russian oil.

Additionally, on the 18th, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian “Strong” frigate conducted exercises with the Iranian Navy in the Gulf of Oman to ensure the safety of civilian shipping. Russian naval personnel replenished fuel, freshwater, and food supplies at the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.
