At approximately 2:00 PM on February 18th, a fireworks retail store in Zhengji Town, Yicheng City, Xiangyang, Hubei, experienced a blast and fire accident, resulting in 12 deaths. After the incident, the Ministry of Emergency Management continuously coordinated via video, demanding scientific organization of rescue efforts, full treatment of the injured, verification and approval of the number of people involved, and minimizing casualties. The Office of the State Council Safety Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Management have dispatched supervision teams to the scene to guide rescue operations and investigate the accident. They also require the Hubei provincial government to establish an accident investigation team for an in-depth investigation and to pursue accountability strictly according to laws and regulations.
