Global economic conditions are prompting countries to revise their long-term plans. Saudi Arabia is no exception – it has recently decided to update its main transformation initiative. As Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan announced, the change in approach stems from the need to adapt to current market realities and ensure stable economic growth.

Originally launched in 2016, the Vision 2030 strategy was intended to be the foundation for transforming the Saudi economy. The updated version of this plan retains the core assumptions but introduces new emphases. The primary goal remains economic diversification – reducing dependence on oil export revenues and opening up to alternative sources of growth.

Minister Al-Jadaan highlighted the crucial role of innovation and strategic investments in new industries. Saudi Arabia aims to strengthen its international competitiveness through pre-investment in technology, tourism, and sectors unrelated to raw materials. Alongside economic transformation, the authorities seek to improve the living conditions of their citizens.

The updated Saudi Arabia strategy responds to global changes and the regional countries’ ambitions to maintain their economic positions on the world stage. The scope of these changes shows that long-term plans must evolve alongside shifts in the geopolitical and economic environment.
