Japan's flu outbreak remains high, with 70% of regions reaching "alert" level

Data released by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on the 20th shows that during the week ending February 15, nearly 160,000 influenza cases were reported by designated medical institutions nationwide. The number has remained high for several consecutive weeks, with 35 out of Japan’s 47 prefectures reaching the “alert” level for influenza epidemic indicators. The latest data indicates that from February 9 to 15, over 15,770 cases were reported by more than 3,000 designated medical institutions across Japan, averaging 41.44 cases per institution. Due to the spread of influenza, as of February 15, a total of 8,174 kindergartens, nurseries, elementary, and middle schools across Japan have suspended classes entirely or partially for certain grades or classes.
