This shift extends to security features—specifically, any security keys or Passkeys currently linked to the twitter.com domain will need to be re-registered to x.com within a two-week window. According to reports from PANews citing 9to5Mac, this technical migration is a routine administrative step accompanying the platform’s domain consolidation, not a response to any security vulnerability.
Understanding the Impact on Your Authentication
The change affects users who have configured hardware security keys or Passkeys for account protection. These authentication methods, which are currently bound to twitter.com, will cease functioning unless users complete the rebinding process. X clarified that this transition has no connection to any security incidents and does not impact other two-factor authentication options like the Authenticator app or SMS verification. If you use these alternative 2FA methods, no action is required on your part.
