Yichun mining rights adjustment stirs the lithium industry, Tianqi and Ganfeng surge strongly in two days
The market has sensed Yichun’s “actions.” On December 17th during trading, lithium concept stocks collectively strengthened, with Tianqi Lithium and Ganfeng Lithium both rising over 5%, simultaneously driving the main contract of lithium carbonate futures up nearly 5%, with the quote reaching 105,600 yuan/ton.
Changes in Yichun’s Supply Pattern
The trigger for this wave of gains points to the “Asian Lithium Capital” Yichun. The Municipal Natural Resources Bureau officially released a significant notice—proposing the cancellation of 27 mining permits. This move may seem like routine administrative action, but it actually targets the industry supply chain directly.
The impact is not limited to one entity; among those affected is the Shiziling Mine in Yifeng County, operated by Jiangte Motor, which contains lithium-bearing kaolin, and is listed among the 27 proposed cancellations. Jiangte Motor promptly submitted an objection, leaving no room for ambiguity. This is the second major move in Yichun after Ningde Times’ lithium mining assets were impacted.
Why is the market optimistic?
Uncertainty on the supply side is becoming the core driver supporting lithium prices. From Ningde Times to Jiangte Motor, from Yichun to global mining areas, disruptive information is being released frequently, prompting the market to reassess the recent true state of lithium supply.
Huatai Futures also points to this logic: in the short term, lithium prices are likely to remain high and volatile. The key variables lie in the progress of capacity releases, capital flow directions, and when marginal changes in supply and demand will emerge. Any fluctuation in any link could trigger increased volatility.
As a major global lithium mine producer, Yichun’s policy adjustments are gradually showing spillover effects. After this wave of cancellations, how the industry landscape will be reshaped has become the market’s most closely watched focus.
