Domestic economy continues to decline, and more and more traditional business owners are actively seeking diversified ways out.
Yesterday, a middle school classmate came to Guangzhou on a business trip and happened to visit me in Shenzhen. Let me first share his background:
In middle school, he was in the lowest academic group, and after finishing middle school, he simply couldn't continue and went to work. Since then, we hardly kept in touch, only occasionally hearing that he made a lot of money, but I wasn't sure exactly what he was doing.
It wasn't until yesterday, when we sat down to chat, that he told me about his entrepreneurial experience.
He later started his own company specializing in bridge and highway inspection, mainly serving government clients, so he managed good government resources and relationships. He indeed made money during those years, bought several apartments in Chengdu, and gradually invested in various physical projects: power banks, live streaming, and catering.
But after the pandemic, the national economy declined, and local government funds were no longer as easy to access. The profit margins of inspection companies shrank significantly, and many physical projects also started to become less viable. Now, he is almost traveling across the country, looking for new opportunities.
This time, he was very direct with me:
Investing in physical assets is no longer attractive, and he wants to try online, especially Web3 / crypto circles, but he has almost zero experience. He only participated in Ponzi schemes like 3M before, earning some money, and now he genuinely wants to learn from me.
After chatting, I felt quite emotional.
This classmate with only a middle school education, in terms of money-making intuition, risk awareness, and cognitive iteration ability, truly surpasses many of his high-achieving classmates from back then. He is very clear about when to enter and when to exit, and understands how to prepare for the future in good times, with a strong sense of crisis even in stability, and extremely high execution ability.
These qualities are precisely the most scarce and most important factors for long-term success.
No wonder he has now become the most successful among our classmates.
