When I saw the Philippine government paying salaries using Polygon
To be honest, I was stunned for a moment.
This is not a proof of concept, nor is it a pilot project; the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) of the Philippines is actually using blockchain to track public funds and government assets.
The German state-owned bank issued 100 million euros in on-chain bonds. Spain's BeToken became the first fully compliant on-chain equity issuance in the EU.
This is what Mass Adoption should look like.
When others are still telling stories
I took a look around, and most of the L2 are still there:
Financing and issuing tokens
Pie-in-the-sky airdrop
Debate over who is the "true L2"
Which one has a better TVL?
Polygon is already doing other things:
Q3 Data:
$1.82 billion in payment transaction volume (+49.2%)
$380 million in crypto card spending (Visa + Mastercard)
1.14 billion USD total value of RWA
2.94 billion USD stablecoin supply
This is not DeFi data; this is data from the real world using blockchain.
The technology hasn't stopped.
The transaction confirmation time has reduced from 1-2 minutes to 5 seconds.
TPS breaks 1000, target 5000
The average fee has dropped to $0.0027
This is what infrastructure should look like - cheap, fast, and stable.
My opinion
Polygon is validating a simple yet often overlooked fact:
Blockchain does not require everyone to understand what L2 is or what ZK is. It only needs to make payments cheaper, make asset flows more transparent, and make settlements faster.
The Philippine government does not care whether you are using Optimistic Rollup or ZK Rollup. They only care about: can the budget be tracked? Can corruption be prevented? Can costs be reduced?
German banks do not care about your TVL ranking. They only care about: Is it compliant? Is it safe? Can it really reduce issuance costs?
While everyone is still debating who the "best L2" is, Polygon has already become the choice of governments and banks.
This is the gap.
