Eric Trump Denies Asian Ties Beyond Metaplanet, Reaffirms Loyalty as MTPLF Shares Slide
Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, on Monday dismissed rumors that he had ties to any Asian company other than Metaplanet. His statement came in response to speculation circulating in Japan’s investment community following his recent visit to the region.
Eric Trump: Metaplanet Is My Only Partner On September 8, Trump clarified on X: “Metaplanet is the only company I work with in Asia.” His comment followed the spread of a photo showing him with the president of ABC (formerly GFA). The image fueled speculation that Trump was linked to ABC, driving a spike in its stock price. But after Trump denied any involvement, ABC shares plunged more than 17.79% to 462 JPY. “I don’t know who that is, and I have NO stake in this company. This was just a photo taken at a conference. If anyone claims I’m involved, let me be clear — I am not,” Trump said.
Metaplanet Expands Its Bitcoin Holdings Eric Trump serves as a strategic advisor to Metaplanet, Japan’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. At its recent shareholder meeting, the company announced that it increased its Bitcoin holdings to 20,136 BTC. Just last week, it added 136 BTC worth $15.2 million at an average price of $111,783 per BTC.
Metaplanet and MTPLF Shares Under Pressure Despite the Bitcoin accumulation, Metaplanet shares closed down 2.96% at 688 JPY, shedding 31% over the past month. Year-to-date gains have now narrowed to 97%.
Shares of MTPLF also came under pressure, closing 1.62% lower at $4.855. They fell 30% over the past month, though they still remain up 108% year-to-date. The declines reflect broader uncertainty around Bitcoin’s price. BTC is currently trading near $110,979, up 3.4% for the week, but investor sentiment remains cautious amid macroeconomic headwinds and growing institutional interest in altcoins.
