OpenAI launches the next-generation flagship AI model GPT-5

OpenAI released its latest generation AI model, GPT-5, on August 7. This is OpenAI's first "integrated" AI system, combining the reasoning capabilities of the o series models with the rapid response capabilities of the GPT series models.

OpenAI CEO highly praised GPT-5, calling it "the best model in the world," a "significant upgrade" compared to previous models, marking an important step for the company in achieving general artificial intelligence.

GPT-5 has performed exceptionally well in multiple benchmark tests. In the SWE-bench Verified code test, it achieved an accuracy of 74.9%, slightly higher than the latest models released by other companies. The hallucination issue of GPT-5 has also been significantly improved, with an error rate of only 4.8%, far lower than that of previous models.

Starting from the day of the release, GPT-5 will be available for use by all ChatGPT users, including free users and various paid users. The main difference between user groups lies in the usage limits. The full functionality for free users may take a few days to be completely rolled out.

GPT-5 has made significant improvements in three key areas:

1. Programming Ability: GPT-5 is OpenAI's most powerful coding model to date, capable of creating complete websites, applications, and games based solely on a prompt.

2. Creative Writing: GPT-5 can handle structurally complex writing tasks, such as unrhymed iambic pentameter poetry, demonstrating "better taste".

3. Health Consultation: GPT-5 can more actively flag potential health issues, helping users interpret medical results, but OpenAI emphasizes that it cannot replace medical professionals.

To enhance security, OpenAI has introduced a new training format called "safe completion" for GPT-5, teaching the model to provide the most helpful answers within a safe range. Additionally, OpenAI has launched four optional ChatGPT chat preset personalities, including cynic, robot, listener, and nerd, to match different users' communication styles.

GPT-5 adopts a unified system architecture, equipped with real-time routers that can automatically determine the response method based on the type of conversation, complexity, and tool requirements. This makes ChatGPT easier to use, eliminating the need for users to manually select settings.

In internal testing for economic value work, GPT-5 performs at a level comparable to or better than experts in about half of the cases, covering over 40 professional fields such as law, logistics, sales, and engineering.

With the release of GPT-5, a major tech company announced that it would integrate it into its extensive product portfolio, including office suites, code editors, and cloud service platforms, allowing enterprise and consumer users to immediately experience the advanced reasoning capabilities and programming advantages of GPT-5.
