KOR Protocol: Pioneering a New Era of Music and IP Management

An innovative tool is changing the way music creators mix songs to adapt to our increasingly virtualized lives.

KOR Protocol is a decentralized intellectual property platform aimed at helping creators protect and monetize their works. The platform opened to global creators and developers on September 26.

With the support of several major web3 participants, KOR Protocol utilizes blockchain technology to provide a scalable and transparent IP management system.

Starting this week, developers around the world can access the KOR Player software development kit to install and use the protocol, bringing a whole new experience to creation.

KOR Player allows creators to convert music into game soundtracks, fan remixes, and more, without violating copyright rules. This is a sophisticated tool that can blend licensed music and other content into virtual environments.

Pixelynx reported that over 600,000 users participated in related projects, including the AI music platform KORUS and Netflix's "Black Mirror" experience "The Smile Club." The latter sold out in less than three hours, minting approximately 285,000 NFTs and generating $1.5 million in revenue.

Pixelynx CEO Inder Phull leads the company and its various activities alongside electronic musicians Joel "Deadmau5" Zimmerman and Richie "Plastikman" Hawtin.

To gain a deeper understanding of the development of the KOR Protocol, we interviewed Phull to discuss its operation, its potential impact on digital copyrights, and his views on the future of the entertainment industry.

Phull stated that the KOR protocol strengthens the entire ecosystem, unlocking the next stage of growth through on-chain IP management and distribution using the technology the company has been building.

Regarding the positioning of Pixelynx, Phull explained: "We are building an entertainment ecosystem that allows IP holders to bring their IP on-chain and grow together with the community through different applications. We place great emphasis on the creator experience and believe this can enable fans and creators to co-create with their favorite IP."

When it comes to the metaverse, Phull believes it is the future of the internet and entertainment, integrating technologies such as blockchain, identity tools, and gaming to make the internet more immersive. He emphasizes that the metaverse is closely related to immersion and ownership.

Phull's blockchain journey began about 10 years ago when he read a research paper on managing copyrights on the blockchain. About 5 years ago, when Fortnite launched the Travis Scott experience, he started to connect these concepts and realized that if users could truly own digital goods, it would create new forms of value.

Pixelynx collaborated with Deadmau5 to launch an NFT project and also partnered with Beatport in January 2022 to release the Synth Heads series, which put approximately 100,000 songs on the blockchain and sold them as part of new single releases.

Talking about the collaboration with Deadmau5, Phull shared his experience of winning the "International Music Summit Visionary Program" competition at the age of 23, which gave him the opportunity to present the company's vision to Deadmau5 and his manager, thereby establishing a partnership.

Phull believes that the music industry urgently needs this solution. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerabilities of the industry, while NFTs provide artists with a new way to directly release content to fans and creatively distribute value.

Regarding the relationship between NFTs and streaming, Phull stated that NFTs will not replace streaming but can complement it. NFTs can help artists sell digital wearables, experiences, or other content, reassigning value to music.

Phull also introduced the project "Black Mirror: Smile Club", which is a web-based interactive experience. Users must smile daily to enter the allowed list, and those with a Smile Pass can participate in tasks and challenges, with the community driving the storyline forward.

The KOR protocol is the key to achieving all of this. It is an on-chain IP infrastructure for the complete lifecycle management of IP. Creators can register IP, set rules and permissions, and achieve collaboration, which is a transparent permission management system.

So far, there are over 600,000 users in the Pixelynx ecosystem, who have minted over 285,000 NFTs. Royalties are paid in cryptocurrency through smart contracts but can be exchanged for fiat currency. Licenses are based on traditional licensing contracts and are legally recognized.

Phull stated that the KOR protocol is attractive to both large companies and independent creators. While large companies may act slowly, they are very interested in the potential of this new model.

For creators who are new to web3, Phull advises finding their own community, participating in it, and trying out the products. He emphasizes that web3 is built on community, and once you find your place, the opportunities will be endless.
