Abstract generation in progress

Many people advise children to "do what they like." Indeed, it seems reasonable at first glance, as engaging in something you enjoy can lead to enthusiasm.

However, I have felt discomfort with this word for a long time. This is because "things I like" change over time. What I was passionate about as a child may lose my interest as I grow up, and "likes" are never a universal axis.

During that time, I came across a speech. I watched a lecture by American venture capitalist Ben Horowitz at Columbia University on YouTube.

He said this.

"Instead of following what you like, follow what you are good at. If you achieve results in what you are good at, you will come to like it. 'What you like' is from your perspective, but if you achieve results in 'what you are good at', it will be beneficial to society."

Hearing these words, I deeply agreed that it was exactly right.

Instead of starting with "what you like," begin with "what you are good at." That leads to results, and those results generate confidence and enthusiasm. Such a cycle may become the foundation of a sustainable career and life.
