The court requested data on the bank transactions of the President of Argentina due to LIBRA

Judge Maria Servini has ordered banks to provide account statements of Argentine President Javier Milei as part of a civil lawsuit regarding the promotion of the meme coin LIBRA. Local media report this.

The request also concerns his sister Karina Miley, who is suspected of collaborating with the businessmen involved in the token launch. Both did not appear at the hearings and did not send their lawyers.

On February 14, Javier Milei posted on X, where he shared a link to the website and the contract address of LIBRA. The coin that debuted that day reached a market cap of $4.56 billion, but then the price rapidly plummeted by 94%.

After the crash, Milei withdrew support for the project, stating that he did not have complete information. In the wake of the scandal, the opposition called for the impeachment of the president. Argentina’s Attorney General Eduardo Taiano demanded to freeze the assets related to LIBRA amounting to ~$100 million and restore deleted messages, including Milei’s tweet.

In April, the Argentine parliament approved an investigation into the role of officials in the meme coin case.

According to the media, as part of the investigation into criminal charges of fraud, the court has frozen the assets of the businessmen involved in the project:

• founder of Tech Forum Argentina Mauricio Novelli;
• ex-advisor of the National Securities Commission Sergio Morales;
• YouTuber Manuel Terrones Godoy.

Prosecutors are also examining video recordings in which Novelli’s mother and sister allegedly empty bank safes that were opened a few days earlier on February 17. This occurred on the first working day after the promotion of the meme token Mileem.

According to reports, the US Department of Justice has initiated an investigation into the role of the President of Argentina in promoting LIBRA.
