Former SafeMoon CEO claims innocence, accuses the founder.
Braden John Karony, the former CEO of the cryptocurrency company SafeMoon, pleaded not guilty as his trial began in New York. In a post on May 6, Karony asserted that he did not commit fraud, responding to allegations of diverting and misappropriating millions of USD from SFM Token. He also hinted that Kyle Nagy – the founder of SafeMoon – was responsible for some fraudulent activities, after Nagy fled to Russia.
This trial has received less attention compared to other cases such as the Sam Bankman-Fried case or the conviction of Changpeng Zhao. Karony has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, online fraud, and money laundering, and he has been released on a bail of 3 million USD.
The lawsuit trial is set for November 2023, when Joseph Nocella, appointed by Donald Trump, assumes the role of Acting U.S. Attorney for the district. Meanwhile, nearby, former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky is scheduled to be sentenced on May 8 after pleading guilty to two criminal charges.
