Atlanta Fed President Bostic: Has not yet decided whether to support a rate cut next month.
[Atlanta Fed President Bostic: Hasn't decided whether to support a rate cut next month] Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank President Bostic hinted that while he supports the recent two rate cuts, he hasn't decided whether to endorse another rate cut next month. Bostic stated at an event in Seattle on Friday: “I am okay with the last two rate cuts; as for the next one, we will have to wait and see. I want to base my judgment on data regarding what policy is most appropriate.” Fed officials currently have serious disagreements on whether to continue rate cuts next month. So far this year, the Fed has cut rates a total of 50 basis points. According to futures market pricing, investors currently believe there is just under a 50% chance of another 25 basis point cut at the December 9-10 meeting. Bostic pointed out that the current situation is challenging because “we are not making progress towards our goals in both aspects of our dual mandate (namely employment and inflation).” Earlier this week, he stated that inflation remains a “more clear and pressing risk” in the economy.
