Analysis: The U.S. government may be behind the theft of the LuBian Mining Pool. If true, it would be the largest financial hacker in history.
On October 15, according to on-chain detective ZachXBT's analysis, documents released by the U.S. government yesterday show that the wallet addresses listed among the seized $14 billion (127,000 BTC) were named in a Milky Sad report about 2 years ago, stating that their private keys were vulnerable to attacks. The U.S. government has now stated that they are safeguarding these wallet addresses. In response, Arkham analyst Emmett Gallic indicated after research that "it currently seems increasingly likely that the U.S. government is behind the theft of the LuBian Mining Pool, and if true, the U.S. government would be the largest financial hacker in history." Although there is no conclusive evidence to confirm this matter, Emmett Gallic believes that the future movements of the addresses marked as "LuBian Hacker" on Arkham will be sufficient to serve as a basis for judgment. Previously, LuBian, which ranked among the top ten mining pools globally, suffered a major security incident in December 2020, resulting in the theft of a total of 127,426 BTC, making it the largest Bitcoin theft in history. The 127,000 BTC seized by the U.S. government yesterday originated from this fund.
